Careless policies and real results

Over the last week in Japan, 6,588 were taken to hospital for heatstroke.

Since the earthquake and tsunami in 2011, the Japanese have been told that it is each person’s responsibility to reduce energy consumption by curbing use of air conditioning, among other things. Given that over half of those hospitalized were over 65 years old, this current situation appears to be the foreseeable consequence of thoughtlessly making such policies in a culture that puts more stock in following the rules than even their own well-being.
