I’m on a new journey. It is as exciting as it is frightening, because I don’t know what is going to come next. For some reason, I want to make this more uncomfortable by making my journey public. For now, let me get the brief introduction out of the way, then I’ll move on to the details of the journey.
My name is Ken Barton. I’m a 39-year-old dilettante (thus, the name of this blog), and I’ve just moved to Tokyo, Japan, to be with my wife and daughter. I’m sure we will get to more details regarding the context of my situation — where I come from, how I got here — but let’s hold off on that to get back to why we are all here.
My goal is to take you with me as I make a new life in a different country — good, bad, and otherwise — as well as all the other things that capture my attention. In the process, I hope to provide you with some useful information, whether it is about migrating to a different country, or just about the stuff you will find in Japan. That will be the main theme of this endeavor, but I also realize that it will eventually get boring if I’m just posting a bunch of photos of selfies, food porn, and cat cafes. My interests will change over time, as will yours, and I would like to allow this blog to grow along with us. To that end, please feel free to contact me and give me feedback about how I’m doing, or what you would like to see here.
Until then, please enjoy what is to come.
